Instructions

Add rice and water to a saucepan.

Bring to a boil and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

Gradually add milk and add salt.

Bring back to a boil while stirring.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and cover with a lid.

Wrap the saucepan well in a duvet or thick blanket.

Place it somewhere warm for 3 to 4 hours, until the rice has swollen and the porridge is done.

Stir well before serving.

Tips & tricks

Use a heavy based pot and wrap it well. The better the pot holds heat, the more evenly the porridge will finish.

Did you know?

Norwegian duvet rice porridge is a traditional method where residual heat does much of the work after the porridge has boiled. When the pot is wrapped well, the rice slowly swells in the milk without constant stirring. The method saves attention, but requires the pot to retain heat well.
