Instructions
Wash the oranges well.
Peel off the outer orange zest with a vegetable peeler or zester, without getting too much of the white pith.
Squeeze the juice from the oranges.
Add orange juice and orange peel to a saucepan.
Add star anise, cinnamon stick, cloves, ginger and sugar.
Heat to the boiling point.
Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the drink steep for at least 15 minutes.
Strain through a fine sieve.
Serve the orange mulled drink warm.

Tips & tricks
Avoid including much of the white orange pith. It can give a bitter taste, especially when the peel steeps with warm spices.
