Instructions
Whisk eggs and sugar until pale and airy. This usually takes 5 to 7 minutes.
Mix flour and baking powder.
Carefully sift the flour mixture into the egg mixture.
Fold in with a spatula until the batter is even and airy.
Pour the batter into a greased or parchment lined springform pan of about 24 cm.
Bake on the lower rack at 160 degrees for about 40 minutes.
Cool the cake base completely.
Cut the base into three layers.
Whip cream and sugar into whipped cream.
Roughly chop the almonds.
Slice the bananas.
Clean the strawberries and slice most of them. Save some nice strawberries for decoration.
Place the first cake layer on a serving plate.
Spread with strawberry jam, whipped cream, banana and strawberry slices.
Add the next layer and repeat with cream and fruit.
Add the final cake layer and cover the whole cake with the remaining cream.
Decorate with strawberries and chopped almonds.
Chill the cake for a while before serving if desired.

Cut the sponge only when it is completely cooled. This makes it crumble less and gives more even layers.
